04th August 2022
This week we have been bombarded with reports of massive profits being declared by various shipping lines, but a quote which provides a glimmer of hope is this:
“With softening in the spot market and, in some cases, spot rates dipping below long-term contracted rates, Xeneta says some shippers may find themselves in a stronger position to renegotiate contracted rates. “It’s going to be an interesting few months ahead,”
While we know better than to expect overnight changes, we have seen the trend turning with reductions trickling through and will pass these on as they happen.
Something else we have seen this week is a small reduction on the fuel price. Having had nothing but increases on Oil, Fuel and BAF this year, its nice to see any decreases as this is the first fuel decrease for 2022.
EU – Blocked Containers – Replacement phytos
A 4th list of phytos was published this morning, for exporters and their agents to review and action. We are busy processing all amendments for the phytos that have already been confirmed for resubmission, and are waiting on DALRRD to publish the list of phytos for shipments with ECW codes to be issued. Your Logistics manager or CSM will keep you posted.

CAPE TOWN PORT
High traffic volumes and high demand on transport booking system. Inclement weather, including rain and wind forecast for the weekend and coming week.
Vessel berthing delays:
- CTCT – 1-2 days
- MPT – 1-2 days
The movement of fruit between the 3 ports, and the delays in offloading at the coastal cold stores coupled with the border delays caused by the SARS strikes, there has been a shortage of transporters both locally and with our neighbours. The SARS strike seems to now have been resolved, and we are anticipating improved turnaround on trucks.
