Industry Update

1st April 2023

As the long weekend approaches, we are seeing the grape volumes dwindling and the citrus volumes starting. Everyone is starting to plan for the season ahead and whilst containers and vessel space is somewhat easier than last year, new protocols call for concerns on cold store and truck capacity, making forecasting and planning more important now than ever.

Last week, Cape Town Container Terminal saw 17022TEU handled during 20-26 March thanks minimal wind, allowing Transnet to optimize productivity.

With the April holidays, comes the drama of less work days equaling potential documentation delays. We have already starting feeling the effects of DALRRD updating eCert, resulting in phyto submissions on hold due to being unable transmit data. Packhouses are in a similar situation with intakes being unable to be uploaded onto Titan. Thankfully we know DALRRD are working hard behind the scenes to get this resolved and ready for the industry with the citrus season ahead of us.

Final PUCs have been issued for citrus into China as well as the “One Pager” documents for Markets such as Thailand, Japan and USA. Attached for your convenience.
