7th July 2023
Its been a while since I have popped up in your inbox, and while it seems like there is LOTS to report, it has been a relatively quite week after all the reported weather crisis we are making our way out of.
We have had SARS downtime, which affected our borders quite drastically, particularly on northbound, but this has in turn led to delays on the trucks turning for South bound loads. The issues have been resolved since then, but with the occasional hiccup still popping up here and there. The BUSA report give us a nice view.
Shippers sending fruit into Portugal are aware of the discharge and delivery delays, and formal complaints have been lodged at destination to their Minister of Agriculture. Attached is a copy of said formal complaint.
On the South African side, we have been impacted by the Cosatu strike action of yesterday, leading to delays in Durban particularly, as per the attached notice received yesterday afternoon. Your Logistics manager and Logistics coordinators will keep you updated on any contingency planning required.
Pome Fruit week 26 Summary is attached.
CGA stats for this week shows increased on packed volumes, hoping the trend continues allowing the industry to meet the prediction of 162.2 m Cartons packed for 2023.
