Industry Update

25th July 2022

The new EU regulation is proving to be challenge for all involved because shipments that arrived from 21/07 are blocked by EU NPPO due to lack of new declarations that is required on phyto’s for Soft Citrus, Grape Fruit and Oranges currently we are working with DALRRD and CGA to resolve this matter as quickly as possible for containers that is currently stopped, please note attached notification and read trough it carefully and send all the details of your shipment that is blocked to CGA with your Log Manager in copy.

Local Ports

CAPE TOWN CONTAINER TERMINAL

Dredging operations at Cape Town container terminal has concluded with all three berths operational, the port is operating with 6 cranes until LC3 and LC6 has been repaired. The Durban crane that will be moved to Cape Town has been identified and Transnet Durban provided an update that the move will likely take place towards the end of August now with commissioning before October.
Durban terminals were wind bound for most of the weekend.

Vessels currently alongside between 5-8 days @ Cape Town Terminal and 4-7 days @ MPT

EASTERN CAPE – PE TERMINAL

Currently vessels are alongside @ Coega Terminal between 2-4 days and 3-5 days @ PE Terminal.

DURBAN PORT

Low productivity in DBN port is causing major congestion @ Durban cold stores with intake trucks sitting 24-72 hours before off loading and this is all due to containers not arriving in allocated timeslots because of congestion, low availability of trucks doing containers loads and trucks having to do turn around loads this has a direct ripple effect back to the pack houses in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo area with pack houses being blocked out and not getting trucks to the farm to move the pallets to DBN the trucks that they do manage to get come at almost double the cost now then 4 weeks ago.

Vessels currently alongside ranging from 10-17 days @ MPT terminal, 5-7 days @ Pier 1 and 5-10 days @ Pier 2

Shipping Lines

Due to on-going low productivity levels in the SA ports, the service will cascade by 1 week. Voyage NZ229R (MSC EU SERVICE) will be blank.

The cascade allows us to maintain schedule integrity and thereby offering a weekly departure from South Africa.

  • MSC Rayshmi will now call Cape Town.
  • MSC Aino will advance before the MSC Eugenia.

Things to take note of:

Currently Rotterdam is experiencing berthing and congestion delays, leaving blank sailings and causing delays for cargo moving from RTM to Jebel Ali.

Singapore is still an issue with limited space on feeder vessels to Japan, Malaysia

Cargo loaded to the MED/Russia with MSC need to be tracked regularly as containers are being routed via different transshipment ports causing delays of up to 3 weeks at a time. (Keep an eye on your Root 2 Go Delay In Transshipment Report)
